hrough Yandeyarra School’s close relationship with Royal Life Saving WA, Yandeyarra’s senior students undertook both their qualifications in Provide First Aid (Senior First Aid) and went on to complete their Pool Lifeguard training.
This involved afterschool and weekend studies, many online modules, training, and practical assessments to gain the qualification. Following this, students then undertook work experience at Yandeyarra Pool several days a week, providing lifeguarding supports to the Pool Manager, Sandy McKenzie.
Our students also receiving ongoing support and training through Royal Life Saving, supported by Jacqui Forbes – Pilbara Development Officer.
Students were undertaking water sampling, pool cleaning, general pool maintenance and lifeguarding duties at the Yandeyarra Pool on a daily basis, as well a formal induction and lifeguard shifts at the South Hedland Aquatic Centre.
Students have now received their official qualifications, and are proud to have skills that support the community.
